Retire in Aberdeen!
It is easy to see why Aberdeen was recently named one of the "Ten Great Small Towns for Retirement" by Travel 50 and Beyond Magazine. with more than 220 buildings in this town listed on the National Register of Historic Places, authentic Southern charm has been preserved in this area. The community's rich history comes alive every day, but especially in April during the Aberdeen Southern Heritage Pilgrimage, which showcases the Aberdeen's timeline of historic homes.

Aberdeen was one of Mississippi's first Certified Retirement Communities, so we've had lots of experience welcoming some great folks to their new hometown! Recent retirees have moved to Aberdeen from California, Minnesota, Florida, Illinois, Maine, New York, Washington, Tennessee and Louisiana, just to name a few...

Many of our retirees have moved here from large metropolitan areas, and they find that the slower, small town atmosphere is a welcome change of pace. But don't misunderstand the Aberdeen change of pace. You'll find enough activities to keep you as busy as you choose!

Our location on the Tenn-Tom has brought many boaters to visit this little town with its Antebellum and Victorian homes. Some of these visitors have decided to stay! Come for a visit and see why. You'll find all the amenities you desire - without the crowds - and a genuine southern town where you'll always be welcome!
Why did WE come to Mississippi?

My wife and I are retired, but for health reasons needed to explore a milder climate for the winter months. I spent a year reasearching 'Retirement Living', and like most people looked at the 'typical' retirement places. I did alot of research and after a suggestion from a friend, looked more specifically at Mississippi. We discovered  that Mississippi has 21 'Certified Retirement Cities', Our research revealed that most people retired and moved to Mississippi due to the friendliness and hospitality extended by its citizens.

In 2009, after a Navy reunion in Tucson, AZ. we flew to Jackson, MS, rented a car and drove around Northern Mississippi for 8 days, covering 1,200 miles. From the very first person we encountered in Mississippi to the very last person (literally) we experienced for ourselves, the friendliness and hospitality of the people in this State !

We covered about 1/3 of the 'Certified Retirement Cities' in the State and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one, but Aberdeen was the city we both agreed suited us best. The people of this town, outdid themselves in extending both "Southern Hospitality" & "Friendship" to total strangers that have spent their entire lives in the Pacific Northwest.

The housing is extremely affordable here and the tax advantages for Seniors are excellent. Aberdeen, Mississippi, is one of the best kept 'secrets' in this country!
